Cameron began road racing on a 250 cc production bike in the
National Championships, quickly reaching ‘A’ grade level. He then
moved up to the hotly contested 600cc Supersport Class, adapting
well to the more powerful bike. After many years of racing dirt
track Cameron felt at home on the Supersport bike where the racing
was always competitive.
In the next two seasons he established himself as one of the top
riders in the country, winning several national and international
races. These results did not go unnoticed and Cameron was given the
support to compete in the 2003 Australian Formula Xtreme Superbike
Championship upon a R1 Yamaha.
This season Cameron had very strong wins, against factory
competition. As well as riding the Superbike in 2003, Cameron
competed in the Asian Pacific Supersport Championship finishing 2nd
in his first attempt at the series riding circuits in Indonesia,
Malaysia & China.
2004 saw Cameron continue to build on his international racing
experience. Racing in the Asian Pacific Championship for Team China
XG Jao on a Honda CBR600, he ended the season in second position
after a season plagued with mechanical problems. In between rounds,
Cameron competed in two rounds of the British Superbike
Championship. Riding for a privateer team on a Suzuki GSXR1000. He
finished both rounds within the top 5 positions of the Privateer
Cup and also scored championship points in the outright standings,
amongst factory competition.
Cameron also rode in the Macau Grand Prix, for Team China XG Jao
finishing 2nd place in the 600cc class, setting a new lap record at
the track. To finish the season, Cameron competed in the ‘King Of
The Mountain’, Australia’s most hotly contested Dirt track event.
Racing in the pro-open class, Cameron finished with a strong 2nd
position.
In 2005 Cameron returned to Australia from stunning debut
performances at the North West 200 and the Isle of Man TT, where
he competed on privateer Supersport and Superbike machines
and finished fastest newcomer at both events.
He was then contacted by the official Honda UK Road Racing team
'Team DMRR Honda' to contest the Dundrod 150 and Ulster Grand Prix
International road races. Riding 600cc Supersport, 1000cc
Superstock and Superbike machines with amazing results, at his
first attempts at these events.
Cameron also competed at the Singapore Supermotard International
race which he won with flying colours.
He also raced at the Moto GP - Support races
in Sepang Malaysia. Winning both Superbike
races.
