LATEST UPDATE 19/04/06
NINE STARTS NINE PODIUMS!
Hi everyone,
It has been a busy time since arriving in Ireland last Tuesday. In
just a week we have raced at two rounds of the Irish Superbike
Championship, riding in both the Supersport and Superbike classes
and recording nine podium finishes from nine starts!
The riding began last Wednesday at the 'Kirkistown' circuit for my
first test with the Uel Duncan team, aboard their newly acquired
Honda machines.
For the first session I went out on my Wilson Craig Honda, which is
ex-Red Bull Eugene Laverty CBR600 and
straight away I could tell that this was a bike capable of winning
races.
Next session was my first ride on the Robinson Concrete Honda
Superbike. This machine is ex-Team Honda Karl Harris CBR1000 and
man is this bike fast! It would have to be the fastest bike I have
ever riden and I can't wait to get it to the North West 200 and let
it stretch it's legs down some long straights.
From there is was straight to 'Bishopscourt' for round one of the
Irish Superbike Championship on Saturday.
This was my first time at the track and although it was a very
technical layout I came to terms with it quickly and qualified 5th
on the grid on the 600 and the 1000.
By the end of the day we finished with two thirds in the Superbike
class and two thirds in the Supersport. Additionally we finished
2nd place in the feature event the 'Enkalon' trophy race.
We had only entered the short circuit events to gain track time
before the road racing season so to finish so strongly was very
encouraging.
Easter Monday and back to 'Kirkistown' for Round #2 of the Irish
Superbike Championship. After testing there Wednesday we were
straight on the pace securing 2nd place on the grid with the 600
and my first pole position of the year on the Superbike.
It was a top days racing and I ended up with a second, and a win in
each class which has positioned me as the current leader of the
Irish Superbike Title!
I'm so pleased with the results and the Uel Duncan team is spot on.
The bikes are very competitive and my mechanic David Lappin is
doing an awesome job. This gives me confidence for the races
ahead.
Next stop Cookstown!
A big thanks to Uel & Kitty, Wilson Craig, Gareth Robinson
& family, David McClements, Billy Barron, Neil Eakin, Tash and
all the other people involved with the team.
